As the motor builds up speed, the contemporary draw of the motor starts to decrease. As it decreases to much less than two hundred amps, the undercurrent relay opens. This movement breaks the circuit from the wonderful bus to the coils of the motor, ignition, and battery cutout relays. The de-energizing of these relay coils halts the start operation.

The starter generator is permanently engaged with the engine shaft via the necessary pressure gears, at the same time as the direct cranking starter must rent some method of disengaging the starter from the shaft after the engine has commenced. The starter generator unit is largely a shunt generator with an extra heavy series winding. [Figure 5-16] this series winding is electrically linked to supply a sturdy area and a ensuing high torque for starting. Starter generator devices are acceptable from an economical perspective, when you consider that one unit plays the capabilities of both starter and generator. Moreover, the total weight of starting device components is reduced and fewer spare elements are required.

The starter generator internal circuit has four field windings: a series area (c discipline), a shunt field, a compensating discipline, and an interpole or commutating winding. [Figure 5-17] for the duration of beginning, the c field, compensating, and commutating windings are used. The unit is much like a right away cranking starter when you consider that all the windings used at some point of beginning are in series with the source. Whilst acting as a starter, the unit makes no sensible use of its shunt field. A source of 24 volts and 1,500 height amperes is normally required for beginning.
